1. Predict the series outcome

Before the series gets underway you'll have to forecast the result of the series. There are 1 possible outcomes:

  • Series drawn: 0-0
  • win:
  • win:

3pts for a correct prediction, 1 point for the correct outcome otherwise

2. Predict the top batsman and bowler of the series

  1. Based on total runs scored in the series, points will be awarded for top three batsmen (1st 5pts, 2nd 2pts, 3rd 1pt)
  2. Based on total wickets taken in the series, points will be awarded for top three bowlers (1st 5pts, 2nd 2pts, 3rd 1pt)

3. For each test match, you must predict the following:

  1. First innings runs scored by each team (max 5pts for each prediction*)
  2. Outcome of the match, i.e. win, win or match drawn/tied (3pts)
  3. Top batsman by runs scored over both innings (3pts for a correct prediction)
  4. Top bowler by wickets taken over both innings (3pts for a correct prediction)

*The following mathematical formula will be used to convert a prediction to points:

points = round(5 / (abs(innings score - prediction) * 0.2 + 1))

This formula gives 5pts for an exact prediction, rapidly reducing to zero when the prediction is more than 45 runs away from the actual score. You can experiment with this formula on this Google spreadsheet.

The Knockout Tournament

The knockout competition for this series will work as follows:

  • 1st test Up to 32 players will be entered into an open draw on a first come, first served basis.
  • Tie-breaker in all rounds, combined differential on 1st innings predictions will determine the winner in the event of a tie
